Podcast appearances

This Past Weekend (#635, 2025)

Sanders appeared on This Past Weekend with Theo Von. The pairing of a progressive senator and a comedy podcast host was unusual. Von's disarming, conversational style led to an exchange that was widely shared and commented upon for its accessibility to listeners who do not typically consume political media. The episode is covered at This Past Weekend #635: Bernie Sanders.

The Joe Rogan Experience

Sanders appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience with Joe Rogan during the 2020 presidential primary campaign. The episode was notable for exposing Sanders' policy positions to an audience that skews younger and male, a demographic that is otherwise difficult for progressive candidates to reach through traditional campaign media.

Significance

Sanders' appearances across both comedy and general-interest podcasts illustrate how political figures now use the medium to reach audiences segmented by interest rather than ideology. His appearance on This Past Weekend, alongside Donald Trump's appearances on JRE and The Shawn Ryan Show, reflects a bipartisan recognition of podcasts as a serious political communication channel.
